Contact & Bio
Jenna Hobbs is a painter and high school Art teacher. She grew up in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts, and now lives in Pleasanton, California with her spouse and 3 kids. Jenna had access to a fantastic arts curriculum in public school from the age of Kindergarten through High School. As a child, she fondly recalls consistently making things both at school and at home, and she believes all children should have the same access to arts education as she was lucky enough to have. Jenna attended Goucher College, a small liberal Arts school outside of Baltimore, where she received a degree in Studio Art, and later a Teaching Credential in Art from San Francisco State University.
In addition to the Arts, Jenna was exposed to the natural environment from a very young age. She grew up camping with her parents and sister in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and exploring the coastline of Cape Cod. In 2012, She spent 5 weeks driving solo across the country from Massachusetts to California. She planned to work for a season as a horseback trail guide in Yosemite Valley, but was so enthralled by California’s ecology and geology that she has lived in the state ever since. Jenna has completed several backpacking treks in California, Oregon, and abroad, including the John Muir Trail (North to South), Rae Lakes Loop, the Three Sisters Loop in Oregon, the Camí de Ronda in Costa Brava, Spain, and the Tour du Mont Blanc bordering France, Italy, and Switzerland. Jenna is constantly in wonder of nature, and hopes that by sharing her artwork, we will all care more about the environment and the dire condition it is in.
Jenna’s artwork ranges from realistic, to impressionistic, to completely abstract. Jenna reveals hidden geometry in scenes by painting invisible ‘plumb lines’ between objects, and geometric shapes between overlapping lines. In her pieces, Jenna blends geometric abstraction with depiction in order to display an intersection between the two. Humans have been inspired to organize their environments using geometry: in architecture, in engineering, and in machinery. To make this geometry visible in natural landscapes shows how it quietly and elegantly exists without human interference.
Jenna has received honorable mentions, special recognition, and a merit award for her artwork. In 2022, She completed a 3 week Artist Residency at La Macina di San Cresci in Chianti, Italy. She regularly offers painting demonstrations and workshops to the public by invitation. If you are interested in scheduling a demonstration or workshop with Jenna Hobbs, please contact her via email.
